Tonight is another rare opportunity to shoot a full lunar eclipse. Back in August we had one, and I put together some tips for shooting a lunar eclipse, and my shots from the last one. Check it out here. Here in California, the eclipse will begin around 6:45 or so continuing until 8 or so. To get detailed timing information, check out Nasa’s lunar eclipse page. Unfortunately, I won’t be shooting it tonight, only because currently Los Angeles is completely covered in clouds and rain, but happy shooting to everyone else and feel free to post links to your shots in the comments.

It’s cool however sadly that the eclipse won’t be until around 4a.m here in Sweden.
I tried to shoot it, but completely failed. Of course I don’t have the right camera or equipment, or even knowledge on how to go about it, that and it was pretty cloudy out there. At least the wait is only about two years before the next one rolls in.
funny enough, i just invested in a d300 and was able to test out the functions with this situation. i shot half of the eclipse exposing the full moon with its red glow, and the other half, when the moon was reappearing, i adjusted to see the eclipse actually happen.
thanks for the tips on the settings. seattle was perfect for the event.
