Photo Porn - San Francisco

bay bridge

For a first visit to a city, I’d say it was a photographic success. Saw a good amount of the city, ate some good food, went on a photowalk, and even randomly ran into a protest… it is San Francisco after all.

Photos and kit after the jump…

I packed light this trip, knowing I’d be doing a lot of walking and wanted to keep the weight down. Here’s what I brought with me:

  • Nikon D300
  • AF-S Nikkor 28-70mm f/2.8
  • AF Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8 Fisheye
  • AF-S Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8
  • AF Nikkor 85mm f/1.4
  • Giottos blower, extra CF’s, battery charger, and lens tissues.

And here’s the photo porn:

Sounds like you had a good time… I was kind of wishing I had gone with you (especially half way through the weekend of the in-laws staying at our place). One of these days we’ll end up going to the same photowalk — I’m sure of it.

Great nightlife shots and thanks for the appetizers and wine. My treat next time your back.

By the way, any recommendations on a good lens for a Nikon D-50 for night shots? I have one with the standard 28-70 but want to experiment more….

    @Chris, no problem, anytime.

As for a lens, really depends what you are trying to shoot. The bridge shot was witha wide angle 17-35 i think… but generally there isn’t any special “night” lenses I’d recommend.

..I mean if you are trying to shoot ‘low-light’, like in a bar or something similar, then a fast (f/1.4 or so) prime lens is good, but if its cityscapes, landscape type stuff, I’d go for a wide angle. Theres a reasonably priced Nikon 12-24mm f/4 thats pretty good too.

Hi I am a Photographer here in South Florida (www.paulopics.com).
I am planning to start a Photowalk here… how was the one in SF?
What time did you start, end and did you have specific places to stop for shooting?
    Thanks
