As an entry to Jim Goldstein’s most recent blog project, I’ve gone through the painstaking process of trying to pick my 10 Best photos from 2007. Let me tell ya, this was not easy. I am submitting just a bit past the deadline but I hope Jim will still accept my entry. :) It’s funny how happy hour after work on a friday can make a plan to post by midnight a bit foggy. Anyways, I’d love to hear what you guys think of my picks. All the photos after the jump!

    Thanks for the kind words everybody!

    @James

    It was a shot about every 3 to 4 minutes. I actually broke down how i did it in a previous post located here.

    P.S. If you could only spend $1,000 in ‘08 for Canon lenses, what would they be (minimum of 3) and why?

  11. 11 rygood

    @rookie

    $1000 bucks… hmmm. that wouldn’t even get me one lens thats on my list. To me, you have a couple options, each that take you a bit over the $1000 price point.

    Option 1: Canon 24-70 f/2.8L - price: around $1059

    Option 2: Canon 50mm f/1.4 and Canon 17-40 f/4 - price: around $300 for the 50mm and $630 for the 17-40

    You could also substitute the Canon 70-200 f/4 L (non-IS) for around $550.

    All of these are solid choices, the 24-70, though only one lens is IMO one of the best lenses canon has ever made, especially for general purpose shooting. In the end it really depends on what you like to shoot.

    You’ve inspired me to pull out ten of mine… Hmmmm… which ones?

    Nice first shot you have there. It looks as if you have a giant reflector shining on the house.

  17. 17 Krishna

    I especially love the first picture. Did you do any kind of touch-ups on it?

  18. 18 Carol Osborne

    Amazing photos.

  19. 19 Tim

    Great picutes.

    I want to get a good solid cameria but don’t want to spend over $2000ish w/lens. Would you recommend the Canon 40D or Nikon 300? Also, what’s the best internet site to buy a camera on? A lot of the webistes offer really low prices but seem too low.

    Tim

  20. 20 laanba

    Wonderful photographs. Even better I found a new addition to my photography blog list. :-)

  21. 21 Rex

    Tim, I’ll give you my 2 cents on Canon if you like. I would get the 40D with the 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM lens. That;’ll run you a little over $2K.

    B&H Photo is the best web site to buy from. I’ve bought most of gear from them at substantially less than listed price in stores. They’re not the cheapest on the web (close), but they are CERTAINLY the most reputable.

    Sorry I can’t comment on Nikon as I don’t have one. I understand they are right in the neighborhood with Canon, so you can’t go wrong with either.

    One decision to go with Canon I used is that they are more widely used and I have “exchanged/borrowed” lenses with colleagues since most of them use Canon.

    P.S.
    If you want to kick in an extra grand, then the 5D is for you since it is full frame. You get the MOST out of your lenses since there’s no cropping, and the picture quality is top notch since bigger sensors = less noise.

    Superb photography.
