Thus far, I’ve used the gear walking around casually, and I haven’t even used all the lenses yet! In the coming weeks, I plan to do a lot of shooting, and I’ll let you all know how its working out, but in the meantime, I have some first impressions of the D1x and lenses.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The Nikon D1x
The first thing I should mention is that in camera years, the thing is a grandpa (released in 2001), but don’t tell the D1X! For a 6 year old camera this thing takes surprisingly quality shots. Lets not forget, that back in 2001, this was the flagship on the Nikon line with a 5.74 Megapixel sensor. In 2001, most of us didn’t even have point and shoot digital cameras, and if we did, they were probably kickin out about 2 megapixels, giving you an idea of where this camera stood back then. All this being said, there’s no real point in doing a full review of the camera because the technology today is so much more advanced. After using it a bit more, I’ll probably post a bit about the vast advances in technology this camera lacks. But, so far, its been interesting, and I would venture to say if you picked up this camera with no pre-knowledge, you would be hard-pressed to guess its true age.
The Lenses
If you have ever gotten into the Nikon vs. Canon discussion, the Nikon-heads can’t stop talking about their superior glass. Can i agree with that statement? I don’t think I’m there yet or ever will be. I’d venture to say it would be hard for even the most discerning eye to spot the difference between Canon ‘L’ glass and Nikon Nikkor glass, because optically they are both ridiculous. I will say I’ve been very happy with the Nikon lenses I’ve used thus far. Stay tuned for a look at each of the lenses…

You are a very lucky photographer to have access to all those wonderful toys…. I’m very envious.
haha. I feel the same. Its a great opportunity.
Nikon can’t compare with Canon in any way. You should absolutely keep shooting Canon exclusively and never touch any of that Nikon gear again except to carefully pack it up and send it to me.
Here it is nearly a year from your post and good ol’ google sent me your way. Is your friend selling this gear by any chance?
not as far as i know. Sorry!!
Sweet gear! Hope you enjoy.
