The wonderful folks over at digital Photography School have posted a very informative article on different lens offerings available to SLR users. They clearly explain the differences between: kit, telephoto, macro, prime, and wide angle lenses. I wish I had this kind of explanation when i was starting out!
An Ode to DSLR Cameras
Widely popular tech blogger and newly hooked DSLR user Paul Stamatiou describes his first experiences with having and using a DSLR. He has pretty much nailed that feeling of knowing as soon as you use a DSLR, you can never comfortably go back to a point and shoot. Sounds like he’s hooked like the rest of us! Amazon acquires dpreview.com
Hot off the presses from our friends over at Techcrunch, it appears that Amazon has acquired dpreview.com. I can’t speak for everyone, but I personally find this site invaluable for its forums and careful reviews. It will be very interesting to see what, if anything, changes after the acquisition.

This was the first lens I got when I started getting into the world of SLR photography. Like rygood, I am shooting with a Canon 30D. It’s a fantastic camera to learn on, but one of the things you always have to be mindful of is the 1.6 multiplier on the 30D you have to apply to focal lengths to get the equivalent to a full frame camera. Since my good friend Peter pointed out that a 35mm focal length is roughly what the human eye sees, making it a great length to start shooting with since it’s nice and familiar, this 28mm lens gets me pretty close that that 35mm effective length after applying the multiplier. Rock!

The CameraPorn crew hit the road again last weekend to the Spring Fling Mopar show in Van Nuys California. Are we serious car guys? No, not really, but the opportunity to shoot something new was there and we had to take it. Being that neither myself or CHL had ever shot cars before, this was an excellent opportunity to get out there and shoot something new and experiment with HDR photography.
As you might have noticed, the site has undergone something of a facelift. Since launching cameraporn.net last month, I haven’t been satisfied with the standard theme we were using and had plans from day 1 to do something about it. I was able to make time for it this weekend, and though it is still a work in progress, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Let me know what you think!

Flickr’s new slideshow functionality released
According to the Flickr blog, they have finally pimped their slideshow functionality. I have to admit, the previous Flickr slideshow was crap, and was my least favorite Flickr toy, but they did very well with the new improvements. Check out some hot camera porn with the new slideshow.
